Social Justice Committee Charter
Enacted in 2019
A. Composition
Membership in the KUUF Social Justice Committee shall be open to all KUUF members, Friends of KUUF, and interested community members who share our Unitarian Universalist values and ideals.
The Social Justice Committee members shall select their chairs and other leadership positions, pass resolutions and approve the spending of funds.
Any active Social Justice Committee member may participate in the decision-making processes.
B. Purpose
To raise awareness in the Fellowship about the broad ethical and moral issues of our times as they relate to Unitarian Universalist values and ideals.
To help members explore their own responses to such issues and to create pathways to action
To promote actions within the church and the wider community to support social justice goals.
C. Responsibilities
To arrange situations and events within which exchanges of ideas and information can take place, e.g., the Committee itself, discussion series, workshops, forums, etc.
To take input from the congregation on what issues are important, and consider and review this in the Social Justice Committee’s efforts for the year.
To work with Worship Committee for up to three (3) worship services per year which contain social concerns' thrusts, and to provide a Unitarian Universalist perspective on the issue; e.g., recommend speakers, topics, and work conjointly with the Worship Committee in accordance with this Committee's charter.
To coordinate with staff to share information about Unitarian Universalist Association social justice efforts, issues and interests.
To upgrade committee skills and attend appropriate conferences.
To schedule and carry out periodic evaluations of the committee's effectiveness in terms of the goals and objectives of the committee as well as those of the Fellowship.
To meet regularly during the year.
To maintain a notebook of minutes and Committee business.
To forward any information requested by the Board through the Board Liaison or directly through the chairperson.
To prepare and present a report for the annual meeting regarding the year's activities and any recommendations for changes in the charter.
To prepare an annual budget for submission to the Finance Committee, and to administer its approved budget in accordance with policy and procedures.
To clear all activities with the master calendar and with the regular meetings of the Fellowship Council so as to avoid conflict and crowding of activities.
To maintain an up-to-date list of members of the Committee with the Fellowship Secretary.
To perform such other activities as may be requested by the Board.
