UUJEC primary focus is economic justice. Their website is currently under reconstruction. They publish a quarterly newsletter that is one way of learning about their involvements. Another is to use the Sign-Up above to join one or more of their teams. They have 3 active taskforces addressing: Reparations for Racist Crimes; Peace, Equity & Climate; and Healthcare for All. Coverage of their activities will be included in the S.T.A.R.K. CONTRAST as well.
Unitarian Universalists for a Just Economic Community (UUJEC) is a vibrant progressive organization committed to economic justice for all. The philosophy is rooted in the UU liberal religious tradition - to create a world of justice, equity, and compassion. The work contributes to a broader movement for social change, in collaboration with the UUA, UU Service Committee and grassroots organizations. It seeks to inspire and help UUs to study society’s economic and social systems and advocate for justice issues like The Green New Deal and Single Payer healthcare. Unitarian Universalists for a Just Economic Community (UUJEC) is a separate organization, not directly part of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) or Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC).
The Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth is a seedbed for spiritual grounding and education that inspires deep practices of Earth care, justice and flourishing for all. It envisions a world in which reverence, gratitude, and care for each other and for the living Earth are central to the lives of all people. UUMFE is grounded in environmental justice and affirms and promotes the framework of race – and class – informed environmental justice and strive to center the leadership and needs of frontline communities.
UUMFE is the primary convener of the UU Climate Justice Coalition which consists of UU organizations coordinating and collaborating to enact climate justice. Grounded in a faithful call as a community of practice, we share resources, build skills, and organize actions that advance a future with climate justice, collective liberation, and a world where all life flourishes.
UUSJ seeks to create a vibrant community of Unitarian Universalists, working to make a peaceful, just, and sustainable world. Its purpose is threefold: (a) to provide leadership for effective social action; (b) to advance the social justice work of Unitarian Universalist (“UU”) congregations and organizations; and (c) to increase the frequency, impact, and visibility of UU advocacy and collaborative efforts that reflect UU principles.
Here are the basics of what UUSJ does and how:
Select issues strategically that are moving in Congress or timely in the news or require deep tissue education with members of Congress;
Organizing and orchestrating meetings with Congressional staff;
Developing Action Alerts and letter-writing campaigns to allow you to express thoughtful, personalized, and tailored views to Congress on those issues;
Maintaining Issue Action Teams on the priority issues;
Hosting workshops, webinars, briefings, and talks to educate members on emerging issues;
Organizing witnessing activities of national import such as the Climate Crisis, the Women’s March, the Poor Peoples’ Campaign, and March for Our Lives; and
Connecting to UU Congregations, Churches, and Fellowships to help sharpen our denominational engagement on federal matters.
