Who at KUUF engages in social justice activism?

Just about, if not, everyone at KUUF. It flows from our UU values of interdependence, pluralism, justice, transformation, generosity, and equity with love at the center. Every committee and circle have some role in social justice and our economic insecurity drives and charitable giving program offer an opportunity for those whose circumstances don’t allow participation in committees or formal roles.

It is not necessary for you to be a card carrying, every meeting attending Social Justice Committee (SJC) member to make a meaningful difference in the world in which we live. Nor is it necessary for you to read every word on this website. Don’t misunderstand. We want and need to have an active Social Justice Committee but that is just one of many options for involvement. One of the nice things about Unitarian Universalism is YOU get to choose your own path to social justice activism.

The ways and extent to which you go about activism is your choice to make. There is no one size fits all way to do it. Your activism could be as simple as wearing a “Side with Love” t-shirt and having a ready response when someone asks you about it. Or it could be exploring and then embracing one or more of the opportunities presented on this website.

How Does SJC Conduct Its Business?

Monthly Meetings

We currently offer two in-person meetings each month before & after the service, and
one Zoom meeting with the same agenda, to reach as many people as possible. The
early meeting is held on the third Sunday of the month at 9:15 a.m., and the later one
is at 11:45 a.m. The Zoom meeting is on the following Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.  Write
kuuf.sj@kuufjustice.org if you'd like to be on the list for Zoom meeting notices.

Discussion Threads

As mentioned elsewhere we have three discussion groups that are using an online thread approach for participating in and tracking discussions. We had sufficient interest to start three groups: Climate & Environmental Justice; Democracy, Rights & Liberation; and Economic Insecurity. These groups use an app designed for that purpose.

Also, the whole committee will continue to act as a discussion group using the socialjustice@kuuf.org email list. The subject line in an email will be used to name the discussion thread and we encourage the consistent use of th piractice to help people track the various discussions and help them better connect with those who share their interests. This email option will be used for our decision making process, rapid responses and anything else our members choose to share.

Ride Sharing

We hope it will also be used to offer or seek rides for attending social justice events. You don’t have to be an SJC member on the list to send a message to the list so nondrivers and others who need a ride should fell free to use it for that purpose.
